Danielle Crouch, manager of the Western State Bank Expo Center said that while she is looking forward to having her office set up, she doubts she'll be sitting down in it for long. Crouch was named as manager for the center a few weeks ago. She is in charge of the day to day operations of the facility and is already busy booking events and following up with interested parties.
Crouch said she already has several local events scheduled, including a wedding, a quincinera and a concert.
Audrey Ackerman with Western Kansas Broadcasting said the radio station will be hosting a Spanish concert at the expo center in the fall. "It was just a perfect venue for us, " Ackerman said, "It has the space we need and is very affordable. It's great because we are able to rent the area we require and we don't have to pay for amenities we won't need."
Crouch says they will be very flexible with providing the square footage a group needs. For larger trade show types of offerings, the expo center has purchased their own pipe and drape curtain dividers. The expo center does not have tables and chairs, but will work with local rental companies for tables and chairs as needed.
Eddie Estes with the Western Kansas Manufacturers Association (WKMA), hosts of the 3i show is very excited about the new venue. "We have vendors coming back who haven't been for a while," he said. Previously held in Great Bend and Garden City, the 3i show has agreed to be at the expo center for the next 5 years. "We will have more vendor space under one roof here than we had in all three buildings at our previous locations." Estes says he hopes Dodge City is ready. "That will be a small city when the 3i show is here," he said. Previous 3i shows have had as many as 4,000 people attending who were registered as vendors, according to Estes. More than 20,000 people will be expected when the ag show comes to town July 12th through the 14th.
Crouch says that Ford County and the expo center are thrilled to be partnering with WKMA and the 3i show, "But we hope people understand that we will be booking events for local entities as well as regional groups, too," she said.
WIDE OPEN SPACES
The expo center will have a furnished meeting/conference room available for small parties. The concession area will not be leased to any one group but will be available to be used by whatever organization rents the space.
The concrete exhibition hall boasts a 300 feet by 300 feet concrete floor space. There are electric outlets around the circumference plus outlets that can be dropped down from the ceiling throughout the venue.
Page 2 of 2 - The expo center also includes 76,500 square feet of dirt floor space which is plenty of room for an arena plus stalls and staging areas. Crouch says she hopes to have individuals and groups make use of the indoor riding area for everything from private riding time during inclement weather, to horsemanship clinics or other livestock events. Kennel clubs and agility trials would also be a great fit for the space, Crouch said.
Western State Bank Expo Center will host its Grand Opening Ceremony on June 22nd at 3:00 p.m. There will be an open house from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The public is invited to explore the facility and visit with management about upcoming events and opportunities at the WSB Expo.
