The Wellington Police Department has released the name of the individual that was found dead in Century Park, 8th Street and US-160, on Saturday.
"Police department officers were called over to Century Park...in reference to a possible suicide," said Police Chief, Tracy Heath. "Officers responded, and subsequently located a 39-year old male." The man was identified as James J. Hart of the Argonia area.
"Although we're still investigating, doing some follow-ups, right now it appears to be a suicide," Heath said. "We did recover a high-caliber rifle at the scene." The chief said Hart had been text messaging members of his family earlier in the day, Heath said that correspondence lead to the discovery of the incident.
"Then the family member drove to Wellington, located the pick-up, and then noticed him, and then called us," Heath explained.
"The gentleman suffered from what appears to be a self-inflicted gun-shot wound," the chief concluded. Heath added that the park is now open for use.
