Thaine Lee Hunt entered into the heavens on July 29, 2012. He was born in South Haven, Kansas on October 18, 1930 to Herbert H. and Frances Wilkinson Hunt. Thaine was an FFA president his senior year of High School, graduating from Arkansas City High School in 1948. He was an active 4-H member for many years. He joined the Air Force in 1952 and served as air traffic controller in the Korean War.
Raising angus cattle and wheat farming was Thaine’s life work. He was active with the Kansas Angus Assoc. and shared his knowledge of livestock and agriculture by selling Dodson’s Silo’s for many years. Thaine shared his love of angus cattle with his family as 4-H leader and served on the Sumner Co. Fair Board-Livestock Superintendant. He worked to establish the Sumner Co. Fair Livestock Sale, was President of Chisholm Trail Angus Assoc. for many years, and an honorary member of the South Haven FFA Chapter. After leaving the farm he sold farm machinery for John Deer and Massey Ferguson, and then ventured on his own to sell used farm equipment in Newton. He retired in 1992. He also loved to carve and started that adventure after he settled in Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Darlene Hunt, a brother Harry Hunt of Denver, Colo., three children, and their mother, Vicki (Ed) Eggers of Genoa, Ill., Kevin (Mary) Hunt of Wellington, Kansas, Dianna (Ben) Starburg of McPherson, Kansas and Carol Rusk Norris of Wellington, Ks. Step-children, Steve (Rhonda) Shofner of Yukon, Okla., Vickie (Darrell) Rishel of Westminster, Colo., Debra Johnson of Augusta, Kansas. Grand-children, Ross Eggers, Hillary Eggers, Emily Eggers, Nathan Hunt, Kaleb Hunt, Jaden Starburg, Kilynn Starburg. Step-grandchildren Matthew Shofner, Kristine Ferfache, Natalie Rishel, Megan Rishel, Chase Johnson. Great-grandchildren, Naomi Shofner, Damon Shofner, Elsa Shofner, and Sean Hatchett.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Matthew Brooks Hunt and step-grandson, Brennon Coby Shofner.
