Mae Hallene Mirt, age 86, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012 at her home in Wellington, KS. She retired as a clerk for Santa Fe Railroad after many years of employment. She also worked as a clerk for the City of Wellington.

Mae Hallene (Nelson) Mirt was born on June 22, 1926 in Miami, Texas to Hall Martin Nelson and Clara Mae (Kinney) Nelson.

She married Robert E. Mirt on January 9, 1945 in Medford, OK. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2000.

Mae enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking and reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; one brother, Sam Nelson; and one sister, Lucile Law.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Nelson Mirt and his wife Angie of Dodge City, KS and Kelly Eugene Mirt and his wife Lisa of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Marsha Jo Byler and her husband Tom of Wichita, KS; one sister, Bobbie Jo Bradley and her husband Jim of Alamagordo, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Wellington, KS on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. Reverend Brent Clayton will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 7:00 – 8:00 P.M.

Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church and the Wellington Public Library in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
