  • Rural Sumner County homeowner shoots burglar

  • An alleged burglar has was shot by a homeowner in rural Mulvane, Kan. early Wednesday morning.
    "At about 3:30 a.m. a homeowner was awakened by an intruder in his attached garage," reads a press release from the Sumner County Sheriff's office. "The homeowner went outside to investigate and found a suspect in his garage." The sheriff's department says the homeowner held the suspect at gunpoint while his spouse dialed 911. Shortly the situation escalated.
    "When the suspect attacked the homeowner, one shot was fired, striking the suspect in the upper chest," states the press release. "Law Enforcement and EMS arrived on scene and the suspect was taken by Eagle Med to Wesley Medical Center." The suspect is a 31-year old white man and remains in serious but stable condition.
    The homeowner was interviewed by authorities then released. The investigation into the matter continues.
