Lady-Crusaders capture third place in Mulvane.
Three quarters are greater than one, that's the reality that Clearwater faced when losing the third place game against Wellington at the Mulvane Wildcat Classic on Jan. 26.
Wellington controlled the entire game until the fourth quarter rolled around. Through three quarters, Wellington outscored the Lady-Indians – a team that had beat them in December – by an average of 10-5. The Crusaders watched their double-digit lead dwindle with late push by CHS and their 12-3 showing in the fourth.
Wellington battled foul trouble the whole game. Clearwater attempted 22 free-throws, but only had seven points to show for them.
Savannah Cornejo, senior, lead the Crusaders and all scorers on Saturday with 16 points. Cornejo had 34 points during the tournament, leading the team. Following that total closely was Kaily Jenkins, senior, who had 29 after all three rounds were over. Both seniors were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The game played after Wellington's victory was between Garden Plain and the host team, Mulvane for the tournament Championship. Garden Plain won it close, 40-37.
Wellington is on the road against Rose Hill on Tuesday, Jan. 29. The varsity girls play at 6 p.m., the boys game will follow. On Feb. 1, it's homecoming in Crusader-ville, Wellington hosts Mulvane.
