Firefighters battled flames on Harvey and C Street this weekend.

Two separate structure fires were put out by the Wellington Fire Department on Sunday, Feb. 3.

The first took place at approximately 12:45 p.m. at 415 W. Harvey at a house owned by Jeff Ast, occupied by David Lozano. The blaze resulted in $3,000 in damages, and was started by a discarded cigarette, according to a press release from the WFD.

No one was injured during the incident, the Wellington Electric Department assisted the WFD on Sunday.

The fire department advises to discard smoking material in an approved container.

The second fire caused $1,000 in damage in a house, owned by Luana Wilchek at 322 S. C. Street.

"The fire was contained to one room of the structure," states a press release from the fire department. "Roof ventilation was used to clear the smoke from the structure. The cause is under investigation."

No one was hurt in this incident either, mutual aid was given by the Mayfield Fire Department.
