A 42-year-old Wichita man lost his life Friday afternoon, Feb. 8.
One person lost their life on Friday, Feb. 8, just a couple of hundred feet North of the Sumner County line, near the intersection of 119th and Broadway (US-81).
At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Feb. 8, authorities received a call from dispatch about an injury accident involving a GMC Yukon and a semi truck.
"Preliminarily, it appears a Yukon was northbound in the southbound lane [on US-81], and collided head-on with southbound semi," said Sedgwick County Sheriff's Capt. Annette Haga. The driver of the Yukon was Christopher R. Ivy, 42, of Wichita, Kan. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The other driver had minor injuries and refused medical transport," Haga said. Haga added that she does not anticipate any charges to stem from this incident, but the Sheriff's Department will complete a thorough evaluation. As of now it is too early to tell if alcohol was involved with the wreck.
"It will be something that of course we'll look at," Haga said. "We'll also be looking at, where was he coming from, was he intoxicated, if he was having a medical issue; any variety of things that might have caused him to be in that oncoming lane."
