MOUND VALLEY, KS: Robert Lee Baird, age 90 passed away a 7:40 am PST Thursday February 7, 2013 at Country Care Convalescent Hospital, Atascadero, CA.
Mr. Baird was born June 4, 1922 in Tulsa, OK. His parents were Harry and Bertha (Fillman) Baird. He had lived in California the past 4 years moving form Mound Valley.
He retired from the Sante Fe Railroad after working 40 years as a train engineer. He served during WWII as a Merchant Marine. Among his interests were fishing, woodworking and flying his small plane. After he retired, he built several pieces of furniture for his children, creating family heirlooms that will last for generations.
Robert was married to Clorine Quiring on Nov 8, 1943. She passed away Oct 10, 2002 after 58 years of marriage. One daughter, Kathleen Heinrich also preceded his in death.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Baird, Atascadero, CA and Bob Baird, Derby, KS; two daughters, Patricia Scott, Mound Valley, KS and Nancy J. Moore, Sapulpa, OK; nine grandchildren, Daniel Baird, Keith Scott, Kristi Scott, Tim Heinrch, Tom Heinrich, Ashleigh Baird, Trenton, Baird, Richard Baird, and Shannon Baird.
The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 7pm on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Oswego, KS.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday February 16, 2013 at Mound Valley Cemetery, Mound Valley, KS. Pastor Jack Blackwell will officiate. a
