  • Two top-ten finishers in the first varsity golf tournament of the year for Wellington is a good foundation to build on for the Crusaders.
With a score of 76, Nick Becker, senior, took third place and Logan Woodbridge, senior, shot a 77 for sixth place.
"I'm pleased with the results today," said Head Coach, James Ginter, on April 4. "Very happy for Nick, to place third in his first high school tournament is amazing. Logan played well for his first tournament of the year as well."
Taking the top spot in the Wheat Capital on Thursday, shooting par (70), was Wichita-Collegiate's Cameron Chugg, sophomore. Chugg's teammate, Ian Trebilock, freshman, placed second with a score of 72.
Collegiate ended up taking home the team championship as well. The Spartans' score was 300, Augusta placed second with 332, Goddard-Eisenhower rounded up the top-three shooting a 355. Hesston finished fourth, with Wellington four shots behind them at 341, good for fifth as a team. Thirteen schools competed in Wellington on April 4.
Next up for the Crusaders golf squad is a tournament at Andover Central on April 8, followed by a contest in Augusta on April 11. The tournament on April 4 was the only home tournament on the schedule for WHS this season.
"Our younger and inexperienced players were able to gain some valuable experience today [April 4] as well," Ginter said. "We have a chance to be pretty good by the end of the year if we commit to practicing hard."
