Wellington won the opener of the double-header against Andale through six innings. The only problem was, there were seven innings. The Indians pulled off a huge comeback against WHS on April 8 in game one, and went on to win game two.
Jalen Macias, junior, started the game on the mound for WHS, and was very solid for the six innings he pitched. He allowed one run in the first and two more in the fourth, which tied the game at three.
Everything was going the Crusaders' way through six innings, they put together a good performance, highlighted by a 325-foot, three-run homer to right field by Blane Anderson, senior, in the sixth that all but clinched the WHS victory.
But it was all for not, Andale would light up the scoreboard in the final inning. Gage Dunn, senior, relieved Macias at the mound; after the first batter flew out to right field, the base-party began. Andale's Clayton Milford, junior, lined to left, then stole second as Tyler Bugner, senior, blasted an RBI single. Wellington's lead was now two runs.
The next batter, Denver Doyle, senior, lined to center for an RBI single. It was a one point lead for WHS. Dunn walked the next batter, while the one after that, Ben Wusterbarth, senior, loaded the bases with a shot to center.
The game was tied at six when Kule Simon was hit by a pitch on a 3-0 count.
Jerrod Huck, junior, was called on to stop the bleeding for WHS. The first hitter he faced flew out on a 3-1 pitch, the runner at third tagged and raced home. The throw appeared to arrive a split second before the runner reached home, but the catch wasn't clean and the Indians had taken the lead.
The next two batters knocked in base runners as well, and the damage was done. The Crusaders were up by three entering the inning, only to end up being down by three in the bottom of the seventh.
Tyler Jones, Andale junior, replaced Phil Savoie, junior at the mound in the bottom of the seventh. Jones threw three strike-outs to end the game.
