  • Wellington gets first win of the season

  • The Crusaders first win of the season came in the second game against Winfield on Monday, April 15.
    Trevor Nance, sophomore, pitched a shut-out against the Vikings, allowing only three hits in 92 pitches.
    Wellington took the lead in the bottom of the first, it stayed 1-0 until the Diamond Dukes added another run in the third.
    Two more runs crossed homeplate in the bottom of the fourth, the last run came in the fifth. Wellington had five runs on six hits, with two errors. Winfield also had two errors as well, along with three hits on their way to being shut-out in game two.
    Entering the double-header against the Vikings, Wellington was 0-4. After game one on Monday, they were 0-5.
    The Crusaders trailed Winfield most of the game. After a scoreless first inning, the Vikings got on the board in the top of the second with one run.
    Winfield added two more runs in the top of the third, Wellington would answer with a run off their own in the bottom of the that inning.
    The Vikings scored six runs in two of the last three innings at Hibbs-Hooten Field. The winning team had nine runs on 10 hits, with four errors. Loren Farley, senior, takes the loss from the mound for WHS. The Crusaders managed three runs on six hits with two errors in game one.
    The Crusaders will be on the road on Thursday, making up the game that would have started the season in Rose Hill .
