Two first place finishes propel WHS to the team victory.
The Wellington boys tennis team was able to squeak by with a one-point team win at Chaparral last week. Winning at that particular tournament is business as usual for WHS.
"The Dukes have dominated this tournament for several years," said Head Coach, Allen Keller. "We didn't dominate in all divisions like we have in previous years, but with the two first place finishes, we still snuck away with the First Place Team Plaque." As the coach said, WHS won two of the brackets in Roadrunner-land.
Tyler Pettegrew, sophomore, took home gold in Number One Singles. He beat Voeller from Fairfield 8-1, then Meng from Kingman 8-7 in pool play. In the finals he defeated Clawsen from Meade, with a score of 8-4.
The other first place finish for the Crusaders belonged to the Number Two Doubles duo of Chaz Crittenden, senior, and Anthony Glazer, junior. In pool play, they beat Vogt/Guerrero from Fairfield High School, then Clark/Douglas of Kingman in an 8-3 contest. They faced a home team in the finals, Chaparral's Williams/Menhusen – WHS won 8-4.
