Wellington High School is searching for a new girls basketball coach.
After five years at the helm, Kevin Hackerott announced recently that he will leave Wellington to take the same job at Goddard High School.
Hackerott will have his hands full in the move to the 5A Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Divisions II league. The Lions went 2-18 last year and came in next to last in the league in competition with teams like Andover, Andover Central, Valley Center and Arkansas City.
Hackerott led the Lady Crusaders to a 13-8 record last year and finished third in the AVCTL Division IV league.
In 2011-12, Wellington enjoyed a 21-3 record before losing to Ottawa in the 4A State Tournament.
Athletic Director Brian Buchanan said the process to find a replacement has already begun.
“The negotiated agreement requires the school district to post the Girls Basketball job within the district for five days, and then we will advertise the job outside the district,” Buchanan said. “The administration will review the applicants and then we will begin the interviewing process.”
Wellington graduated five seniors this year but there is a good crop of younger players ready to have more success.
