It was a tough draw for all the golfers at the Hesston Invitational on Tuesday. For Wellington, one player finished just outside of the top ten after a tie-breaker.
Logan Woodbridge, senior, shot an 81, which was good for a tie for tenth place. He lost a scorecard tie-break and officially finished at eleventh.
The winning score was put together by Tyler Heimerman, of Buhler, his 76 was one stroke better than the second place finisher.
Other notable WHS performers were a pair of 83's shot by seniors Nick Becker, and Brian Peck. They were two of six players with the same score, tying for sixteenth place. Chance Russell, junior, shot a personal best 86 in Hesston on April 30. As a team Wellington placed sixth out of 11 teams, their combined score was 333.
"Our team scores will have to improve if we hope to compete for a league, regional and state title," said Head Coach, James Ginter. "Our kids know that." The golf team was scheduled to play at Tex-Consolver Golf Course for the Goddard-Eisenhower tournament, but mother nature had other ideas, the tournament was canceled due to weather.
That means the next tournament is a big one, the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail Tournament on May 7 at Winfield's Quail Ridge.
"The experience we have gained over the last month a half will come in handy down the stretch."
