Lois Dalen, 89, of Cortez, Col.

Lois Dalen was born Lois Nadine Twyman on January 9, 1924 in Wellington, Kansas. She was the daughter of W. H. Twyman and Mildred A. Stayton, whose families resided in the Mayfield, KS area. After graduating from Wellington High School in 1940, Lois attended nurses training at Wichita State University. During World War II Lois worked as a registered nurse at the Public Health Service Hospital in New Orleans. Following the war, she moved to Denver, CO, and became a stewardess for Continental Airlines. Lois married Chris Eastin in 1946. The couple lived mostly in Denver where she served as President of the Denver YWCA.

In 1972, Lois moved with Chris to Farmington, NM. After Chris died in July, 1974 Lois remained in Farmington and returned to work as a nurse. She married Gordon Dalen in 1975, creating a happy blended family of eight children and step children. She served on the Board of Directors of San Juan County National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. An avid skier, Lois enjoyed the sport until her 84th year.

Lois was again widowed when Gordon died in 2011. She then moved to assisted living in Cortez, CO, home of her son Chris Eastin III and his wife Barbara. After a sudden illness Lois died at San Juan Regional Hospital in Farmington on October 29, 2012.

Lois is survived by her loving family including Chris Eastin III (Barbara), Lisa Eastin, Kerry Dalen (Jeane Graves), Kim Calomino (Martin), Kim Dalen (Scott Samuelson), Mark Dalen, Dori Rasmussen (Ron), and Scott Dalen. Her brothers Wayne and Gayle Twyman also survive Lois who was predeceased by her sister Shirley Keagy. Lois had fourteen thriving grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Loved by many, Lois will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, curiosity, and positive outlook.

A memorial service for Lois will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday May 26, 2013 at Mayfield Federated Church, Mayfield, KS. She will be buried in the Mayfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, 3803 North Fairfax Drive, Suite 100 Arlington, VA 22203-1701.
