The #8 seeded Wellington Crusaders were in the game with the #1 seeded Mulvane Wildcats all the way to the final pitch of the ball game.
The Crusaders scored two runs in the sixth and seventh inning to get within striking distance of Mulvane but ran out of outs and innings and fell 4-2 in the first game of regional play.
Mulvane took an early 1-0 lead on a double by Mason LeClair off of Wellington starter Blane Anderson.
Anderson pitched a fine game and kept the Crusaders close going the complete game allowing four runs and spraying 8 hits through six innings of work.
The Wildcats doubled their lead in the third on base hit by Andrew Berry who plated Blake Cusick to give Mulvane a 2-0 after three innings.
Mulvane starter Zach Haynes settled in on the mound not allowing a Wellington hit until the fifth inning.
Wellington threatened in the fifth with runners on second and third but Haynes struck out Austin Dunn to end the Crusaders threat.
Mulvane padded their lead in the bottom of the fifth with two more runs all with two outs, a two-out single by Haynes scored Nolan Smith, Cusick scored on an infield single by Alex Evans to boost the Mulvane advantage to 4-0.
Noah Wolff hit a two-out double in the top of the sixth and Trevor Nance followed with a lined shot double to the left field wall to score Wolff.
Down to their final three outs Parker Daugherty reached by a walk and scored on an infield single by Loren Farley with two outs in the seventh, Alex Weiss singled and the Crusaders were on the cusp of a monumental comeback.
Noah Wolff came within a foot of a singl that would have scored Farley but was dropped foul by Mulvane, a pitch later by Haynes the game was over with a striking out Wolff.
