Helen Irene Martin Creed, 92, of Imperial Beach, Calif.
Imperial Beach, Calif. - Helen Irene Martin Creed was born to Mack and Velma Martin on February 4th, 1921. She was married to L.E. "Jack" Creed for 70 years and is the mother of Barbara Seyfried and Beverly Bennett. She has 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She is survived by four siblings: Eliza Cox, Halbert Martin, Peggy Rose and Roy Martin. Helen grew up in and around the Wellington, Kansas area and later lived between Northern Colorado, Kansas and California. Helen is preceded in death by her beloved Jack, 1 sister, Ines Bell and 2 brothers: Guy Martin and Ray Martin
Helen and Jack were guiding lights for the family. Wherever Helen was, the love of our God was with her. Helen, Jack and the girls attended worship services and Sunday school at the First Christian Church of Wellington. Upon retirement, they attended the Senior Sunday school and worship services. Helen included her family and extended family in her worship and God's teachings.
In her 92 years, Helen lived a full life. Helen received her beautician's license and owned her own salon in LaSalle, Colorado. The biggest highlight of her career was styling Phyllis Diller's hair. Helen shared a hospital stay and visited with Elizabeth Taylor in California. Helen was the Kansas State Champion of Horseshoes, although having never played before.
Helen was the happiest, when she and Jack would travel all around the United States. After retirement travels would include grandchildren and extended family. She loved to bringing family and friends around a card table to share a new game she had learned or to teach the next generation how to play cards. She would never leave home without her coffee tin full of pennies.
Visitation hours will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2013. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday evening, May 19, 2013.
Funeral services for Helen will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 20, 2013 in the First Christian Church, Wellington, Kansas.
Interment will follow in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington, Kansas.
