  • Sumner County athletes land on State medal stand

  • Notable Sumner County performers at the State high school track meet.

  • Sumner County athletes were showing up on the medal stand all track meet long at Wichita State University's Cessna Stadium for the Kansas High School State Track Meet on May 24, and 25.
    Belle Plaine's high-jumper, Bryson Gann, senior, placed second in the 3A event with a jump of 6'4".
    Several other athletes from around the County took fourth place in other events. Tanner Wood, senior, from Conway Springs, did so in 3A Shot Put with a throw of 51'10". Mark Sutton, senior, from Oxford, placed fourth in the 2A 3200 Meter Run; Sutton also placed fifth in the one mile run, and seventh in the 800 Meter Run. Also placing fourth at the State Meet was Tyann Isaacs, junior, from Caldwell with a time of 1:01.29 in the 1A girls 400 Meter Dash.
    Placing sixth in the 1A Boys 110M Hurdles was James Moreland, senior, from South Haven with a time of 16.20. Also in sixth was Faith Gaddie, sophomore, from Argonia, who jumped 16'1.75" in the 1A Girls Long Jump event. From Caldwell, Rachel Arnold, junior, leaped 5'2" in the 1A Girls High Jump, good for sixth place.
    Hunter Denner, sophomore, from Caldwell, placed seventh in the 1A two-mile run and eighth in the 1600 Meter Run. Also in the distance category, Devyn Smith, freshman, from Belle Plaine took eighth in the girls 3A 3200 Meter Run. Conway Springs sophomore, Sara Echelberry, took eighth in the girls 3A Discus Throw. Devon Allen, senior, from Argonia, placed eighth in the girls 1A Javelin Throw. From South Haven, Richard Goble, junior, also took eighth, in boys 1A javelin.
