After defeating the Denver Cougars 7-1 on June 1, advancing to 2-0 on the season, the Wellington Heat will host a big, early season match-up versus the El Dorado Broncos today (June 2), opening Jayhawk Baseball League play.
El Dorado enters the game 1-0, defeating Southwest Missouri 11-2 on May 29, that game only lasted five innings due to lightening. The Broncs have had three games rained out between then and tonight's game.
The Heat will start Scott Hoffman on the mound for the league opener. Hoffman is a 6'4'' righty, from South Mountain Community College. Out of high school in 2011, Hoffman was drafted by the New York Yankees in Round 29 of the Major League Baseball draft. The pitcher chose to hone his skills in the college ranks.
This will be the first, big test for the JBL rivals this season.
It is also Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Hibbs-Hooten Field, the Heat players will be wearing pink uniforms, and fans are encouraged to wear pink as well.
