Hall of Fame defensive end David “Deacon” Jones died Monday night at age 74, the Washington Redskins reported. Jones was one of the greatest pass rushers of all time, though his stats are unknown because the NFL didn’t become an official stat until 1982. Jones also is credited with inventing the term “sack.” He played for the Rams from 1961-71, San Diego from 1972-73 and Washington in 1974.
