Emmitt Edgar of Wellington, Kansas, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kansas at the age of 95. Emmitt was born the son of William "Will" L. Edgar and Dossie (McCormick) Edgar on May 4, 1918 in Vinita, Oklahoma. On November 14, 1942 Emmitt and Georgia Ruth "Peggy" Atkins were united in marriage in Newkirk, Oklahoma. Together they celebrated 61 years of marriage. Emmitt and his wife resided in Kansas City, Kansas where he started work for Maytag Company. Emmitt and Peggy had been residents of Wellington and members of the First Christian Church in Wellington, Kansas since 1946. They owned and operated Edgar Maytag from 1946 to 1954 and Easy Wash Laundry from 1970 to 2004. Emmitt worked at Boeing from 1951 to 1973. He also Served in the United States Army. Survivors include Children, Emma Klein and her husband David of Wellington, Kansas, Peggy Acker and her husband Del of Sheridan, Wyoming, Kelley Edgar of Wellington, Kansas, sister-in-law, Dorothy Atkins Russell of Muldoon, Texas, grandchildren, Tim Klein and his wife Chelle of Wellington, Kansas, Tye Klein and his wife Toby of Goddard, Kansas, Marshall Acker and Lexie Gardner of Billings, Montana, Lauren Acker of Sheridan, Wyoming, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother C.W. Edgar and sister Velma Nelson. Visitation hours will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2013. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening, June 14, 2013. Memorial Services for Emmitt will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 15, 2013 in Chapel of Day Funeral Home, 1030 Mission Road, Wellington, Kansas. Inurnment will follow at the Newkirk Cemetery, Newkirk, Oklahoma.
