  • How to Magnetically Align Clamp Blocks

  • Clamping just became more accurate
    • email print
  • Experienced woodworkers know that when clamping, it’s essential to use scrap blocks to protect workpieces from clamps’ jaws. But aligning the scrap blocks can be tricky. Club member Aaron Butler of Danville, Pennsylvania, came up with this foolproof solution. He first used a spade bit to drill 3/4-in.-dia. holes into a handful of 1-1/4-in.-sq. scraps of 1/2-in. plywood. He then glued inexpensive magnets into the holes to create magnetic clamping blocks. The plywood surface of the blocks doesn’t mar the workpiece, and the magnets make the blocks easy to remove from the clamps when they’re not needed. Brought to you by: American Profile
