  • This is a big weekend for the Wellington Heat, who are coming off of a 1-1 road-outing that took them to Derby, where they suffered the loss, and then to El Dorado for another extra-inning Jayhawk League battle. They face another opponent in the war for the JBL title this weekend – The Hays Larks are in town tonight (June 14) to Sunday, June 16.
Games will start at 7:05 p.m. at Hibbs-Hooten Field.
Hays holds a one game lead over Wellington in JBL standings as of Friday afternoon. Each team has won nine games total this season, Wellington is 9-2 while the Larks are 9-1.
In the JBL, Wellington and Hays have been jockeying for position all season so far. Wellington's 5-2 league record is one game better than Liberal in third place. If Wellington can win the series this weekend, the worst they'd be was tied with the Larks for the league lead. If they swept the series, the Heat would be a lone at the top, depending on what happens around the rest of the league this weekend.
Dodge City is hosting Derby in a three game set, and Liberal is in El Dorado through Sunday as well.
