A deadly wreck occurred near the Kansas/Oklahoma Line, just two miles south of South Haven in Sumner County on June 14. A six-month old from Texas lost her life in a one-car rollover.
The Kansas Highway Patrol report states a 1994 Ford Explorer, driven by Tabitha Rushing, 31, of Livingston, Texas was traveling northbound on US-177; for an unknown reason the vehicle left the roadway. Rushing, with her two daughters in the vehicle – Ella, age six, and the baby, Azura – attempted to regain control and get back on the road.
In doing so, the Explorer over-tunered, rolling one-and-a-half times, coming to a rest on the roof.
The mother was injured, but did not need transport, the six-year old was taken to St. Francis Hospital, in Wichita, Kan., the extent of her injuries was not listed by the KHP.
The KHP report also states that the mother and the older daughter were wearing safety restraints, but the six-month old was not.
The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. last Friday.
