Emergency crews worked to free a driver from an accident on US-160, in front of Wal-Mart in Wellington on Tuesday morning, June 18.
The incident took place at approximately 10 a.m. A 2012 Chevy Tahoe was stopped in east bound traffic to make a left hand turn when it was struck from behind by a 2013 Chrysler van, operated by a 58-year-old Wellington female. The 71-year-old man driving the Tahoe, and the driver of the van were both transported to Sumner Regional Medical Center.
Before the trip to the hospital, the 58-year-old had to be removed from the van that was pretty banged up.
"We used extrication tools to open the door on the van to gain access to the driver," said Wellington Fire Chief, Tim Hay. The accident broke her leg, later she was transported to Wichita from SRMC. One more passenger in the van was taken to SRMC via private vehicle with minor injuries.
The 200 block of E. 16th (US-160) was closed for about an hour while emergency crews investigated the accident, according to Wellington Police Chief, Tracy Heath.
