Live United McPherson County

United Way of McPherson County is working to build a stronger community by addressing issues related to health, education and income. We believe conversations and intensive listening are the best ways to understand the real problems and move beyond short-term solutions. Community change can be accomplished through broad participation and collaboration. We encourage McPherson County residents to be involved with their community through giving, advocating and volunteering. By working together we can make a larger impact on the issues at hand.

During the recent scorching hot summer days I have enjoyed coming home from work and indulging in my favorite summertime drink - the Clara (Cerveza de Limon). I was introduced to this beverage during my first trip to Spain. A combination of beer and lemonade, this drink is bright and refreshing. The English call the drink a Shandy.

It makes me laugh to watch American television commercials as they advertise the lemon beer product. American companies act as if they've discovered a great new product. While the drink is certainly great, it has been around for a long time. And instead of buying the canned product, I enjoy mixing my own.

Simply fill a chilled glass three-quarters full of beer and top with lemonade, Sprite or 7-Up. I find lighter beers are better for this drink such as Corona or Dos Equis.
