Speed up your sanding and gluing projects

To aid in sanding and gluing workpieces, Club member Wayne Matthies of Cattaraugus, New York, designed this holding jig. Made from a 4x8 sheet of particleboard, the jig consists of a 36 x 72-in. table with numerous 3/8-in.-wide slots cut through its surface. Holding blocks (both 1/2- and 3/4-in.-thick) slide along the slots, and thanks to their flat, convex and concave sides, the blocks can accommodate workpieces of many different sizes and shapes. A 5/16-in. flathead screw and square nut secure each of the holding blocks through the slots, which have a 5/8-in. dado to capture the nut and keep it from turning.
