Kermit Vance "Pete" Gaddie, age 86, life long Wellington resident, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington. He worked for the Wellington Police Department from 1950–1953. He retired from the Wellington Fire Department as Assistant Fire Chief after 24 years of service.
Kermit V. "Pete" Gaddie was born on February 12, 1927 in Wellington, KS to Arnold Glen Gaddie and Eula Mae (Armstrong) Gaddie.
He served in the United States Army during WWII and the Reserves and National Guard for over 42 years. He was a member of the American Legion Tom Schwinn Post #90.
He married Phyllis M. Palmer on March 10, 1945 in Wellington, Kansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald Gaddie; sister, Arnetta Carter; and half-brothers, Jerry Gaddie and Bill Ashurst.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Phyllis Gaddie of Wellington; one son, Don Gaddie and his wife Patricia of Wellington; one daughter, Danette Ainsworth and her husband Eddy of Argonia; half-brothers, Jimmy and Jay Gaddie of California and John Ashurst of Amarillo, TX; half-sisters, Judy Witt of Ohio and Jan Shelby of California; nine grandchildren, Cristin Petoom, David Gaddie, Jason Gaddie, Tracy Grice, Corey Yeager, Tina Blades, Amber Brooks, Katie Gaddie and Donnie Gaddie; 22 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the American Legion, 124 W. Lincoln, Wellington, KS. Pastor Dan Floyd will officiate.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.
A memorial has been established with the Sumner Regional Medical Center Endowment Foundation. Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
