To correct Lincoln somewhat, he should have said, \x34. . . that government of the people, by the politicians, and for the politicians shall not perish from the earth.

Government's view of the economy: If it moves, tax it.  If it keeps moving, regulate it.  And if it stops moving, subsidize it.  — Ronald Reagan

In the United States, the majority undertakes to supply a multitude of ready-made opinions for the use of individuals, who are thus relieved from the necessity of forming opinions of their own.

From the Washington Examiner, July 26, 2013:

From the Washington Examiner, July 26, 2013:

President Obama celebrated the Muslim holy month of Ramadan with an Iftar dinner Thursday night, quoting the Koran and praising Muslim immigrants for helping build the nation.

Hosting Muslim officials and business leaders at a State dining room dinner, Obama said, "Throughout our history, Islam has contributed to the character of our country, and Muslim Americans, and their good works, have helped to build our nation — and we've seen the results. We've seen those results in generations of Muslim immigrants — farmers and factory workers, helping to lay the railroads and build our cities. Muslim innovators who helped build some of our highest skyscrapers and who helped to unlock the secrets of our universe."

That last phrase is almost BS – there are comparatively few recent Muslim scientists of note, although there were plenty of them in the middle ages.  Also, Muslims are not particularly noted for good works, although I’m certain there are a few who may be benefactors or philanthropists.    In general, Islam has NOT contributed to the character of our country.  It has had very little positive effect.

I don’t doubt that a few individual Muslims have immigrated to this country and have become good workers.  I don’t fault Obama for trying to build good will and asserting that we have religious freedom in America.  I do fault him for largely ignoring the threat from militant Islamists, for not even calling them terrorists, and for declaring the war on terror is over, then proceeding to tell us that the attack on our embassy in Benghazi (in which four Americans were killed) wasn’t a deliberate, planned attack.  The White House carried that story for more than three weeks after the event, and continued to claim it was spontaneous, triggered by an irreverent movie.  I blame him for not investigating the events of that night, including his own actions, and telling the American people what went wrong.

Yes, Muslims have made contributions to America.  Let us never forget September 11, 2001 – a major contribution.   They’ve made other contributions: the Fort Hood massacre in 2009 (Nidal Hasan, the murderer, still hasn’t been punished);  the USS Cole bombing in 2000; the Marine barracks in Lebanon in 1983; or even the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.

The Muslim religion has played no major part in the history and development of the United States, except for the bombings and acts of terror.

Obama, who attended Muslim schools as a child, seems much too soft on them.
