  • A family business in Iowa is expanding its business into Oxford. The Wickman Chemical Company had its ribbon cutting ceremony Friday morning, and is open on the main street through town.
Erich and Tammy Wickman have been selling their farm chemicals in the area, and decided to open a full operation in Oxford. They are wholesalers and will be selling chemicals to farmers, businesses and individuals. They don't do any mixing of chemicals or application of chemicals, Wickman said.
Charles and Louann Buss were selling his products in Sumner County and were ready to get out of the business, Wickman said. As a result they decided to open a business here.
The company is now open and will have four full time employees. Erich and Tammy Wickman will still be living in Iowa, but will be making trips here often.
The company will have two salesmen making calls to sell the farming chemicals.
Janis Hellerd, director of Sumner County Economic Development, said the Wickmans contacted a local bank and the city of Oxford. The city had suitable lots and the infrastructure needed, so the Wickmans built their building and opened recently.
Hellerd said the company will be getting a tax break from the county's neighborhood revitalization program, which involves a 95 percent tax rebate for five years.
"It is always good to get a new company, and new employees. They were great to work with," Hellerd said.
