  • Marie Claire Hetrick, 95 of Abilene, passed away at an Abilene nursing center on Tuesday August 20, 2013.  Funeral services will be held Saturday August the 24th at 10:00 am at the Wellington Church of Christ in Wellington, Kansas with a burial to follow in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Downing & Lahey Mortuary in Wichita, KS.
    Marie was born October 10, 1917 in Renfrow, Oklahoma to Charles and Blanche Cole.  She married the love of her life Glenn Hetrick on September 4, 1938 in Wellington, Kansas and they continued to live in Kansas until moving to Abilene in 1998 on their 60th wedding anniversary.  
    Family was incredibly important to Marie and there was nothing more important to her than spending time with her granddaughters and great grandchildren.  She loved reading the bible and was a faithful member of the Central Church of Christ in Wichita.  The Lawrence Welk show and Wheel of Fortune were always her favorite shows to watch.  Her quick wit, amazing memory and abounding love will always be remembered by her family and friends.
    Surviving Marie are her four granddaughters and their families; Kim Hancock (Randy) of Abilene and Kelsey, Harrison and Baylee, Susan Bratcher (Kyle) of Hildesheim, Germany and Benjamin, Aaron and Lara, Kara Corely (Scott) of Camas, WA and Kinley, Rylee and Jackson, Renee Cobarruvias (Marty) of Abilene and Anson and Sophia was well as brother, Lawrence Cole of Wellington, KS and many other extended family members and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Clayton Cole and two daughters Karen Hetrick and Glenda Stamper.
