Wellington volleyball team is 4-4 after splitting games Tuesday in Winfield. Last Saturday the team was 3-3 at a tournament in WInfield.

Wellington volleyball girls split at Winfield on Tuesday.

The Crusaders first lost to Rose Hill 10-25, 15-25, and then stormed back to beat Winfield 25-15, 25-8.

" They played very scrappy and picked up a lot of balls.  Abby Goodrum got to some Volleyballs that seemed nearly impossible to get to," coach Cherity Elder said.

below is a story that is in this week/s paper.

The Wellington volleyball team went 3-3 Saturday at a day-long marathon tournament to start the season at Winfield.

Wellington beat beating Conway springs, Buhler, and Winfield.  They lost to Wichita Trinity, El Dorado, and Arkansas City.  The team played three matches in the morning, and three more in the afternoon.

“The girls played great volleyball, and it was a long exhausting tournament,” coach Cherity Elder said.  “The team played tough volleyball all day and provided insight into the success their future could hold.”

Siarah Walker led the day with 25 kills. The team passed very well throughout the day and kept the percentage around 80 which is what Coach Elder likes to see.  The coach was also happy with their 90 percent serving rate, which she called “astounding.”

Elder said McKenna Oathout did an exceptional job setting and Erin Goodrum filled the libero position wonderfully, especially for a freshman.

“Overall, I'm very excited for what I saw on Saturday.  It proved many areas we are solid in and many areas that still need work. These girls have great chemistry, and they are competitive enough to get many more wins the season,” Elder said.
