  • I just need to say something about Republicans shutting down the government. Make no mistake, it is the Republicans - or at least the extreme wing - that is  playing politics and doesn’t care who gets hurt in the process.
The Affordable Care Act is a bill that was passed legally, declared constitutional by the Supreme Court, and at least to some degree reaffirmed by the people when they reelected the president. What more do you want? That is how Democracy works.
You’re not always going to like what gets passed. The grown up thing to do would be to move on and try to do better in the next election, or even try to change the law you don’t like.
Using the spending bill to try to derail it is just childish. Millions of people will be affected to some degree in a negative way by the shutdown, and the Republicans are willing to do that in order to obstruct a law they dont like.
How many times have they voted to repeal Obamacare? How much has that cost? How is that sticking with the ideology of wise use of government money?
There are reasons they hate Obamacare so much.
One reason is that the president is black. You may accuse me of playing the race card as you like.  As an American you may say any bad thing you want about the president, true or not doesn’t matter to me. You may rip him to shreds and that is your right. It is also my right to say I think at least part of that is racially motivated.
But that aside, the main reason is that Obamacare will reel in abuses by the insurance industry to some degree, and could help millions of people get insurance.
The bottom line is, it will cut into profits of the insurance industry. I am not against profit, but there needs to be fairness.
I’m sure there are problems with the Affordable Care Act. It will take years before the kinks get worked out, but that is how it works when something new is started. The same thing happened when Social Secuirity was invented, and the same “Sky is Falling” crying happened then. But then Congress didn’t shut down the government.
I remember when this idea was first introduced. Obama presented his case and unveiled the plan. He welcomed Republicans to the table to discuss the idea and to help shape it. He said it was just a starting point. Republicans would never do that, and the have worked against it since that time. It is hard to blame him for not wanting to negotiate now.
Page 2 of 2 - People say they don’t know what is in it, even elected officials. I am sorry, I have no sympathy. I have read it, it took weeks. Much of it is just definitions of words. It really isn’t all that complicated.
There are some websites where you can get information that is not slanted. I would suggest checking out the facts. obamacarefacts.org or www.healthcare.org.
I am hard on Republicans on this issue, and their level of venom against one person. I hope people will understand this does not mean I like Democrats any better. It just seems like Republicans are doing more to tick me off right now.
