  • The Wellington High School volleyball team split matches in Winfield Tuesday night, making their overall record 11-12.
The Lady Crusaders head for South Haven Saturday for a tournament that will include several area teams.
Wellington lost to Clearwater 25-15, 25-7, and rebounded to beat Winfield  25-12, 25-18.
Wellington coach Cherity Elder said the team had too many mental errors against Clearwater.
"We can't afford to give away free points to a team like Clearwater.  We had hitting and passing errors that killed us," she said.
Against Winfield a different Wellington team was on the floor. The Crusaders grabbed big leads early in both games and cruised to the win.
"We made it our goal to be the team on top instead of playing from behind the whole time.  That we did.  I was very proud of the quick turnaround after the Clearwater match," Elder said.
