Caldwell made a statement, even if it was to itself, at the South Haven volleyball tournament Saturday in South Haven. Caldwell had some close matches, but won all five of its games and won the championship.
Caldwell is now 25-2 and getting ready for the playoffs.
One of those close games was with Wellington. The Lady Blue Jays beat the Lady Crusaders 26-24, 25-17.
“Tyann Isaacs and Rachel Arnold did really well adjusting to Wellington's big blockers,” Caldwell coach Kyane Lee said.
She was happy with the way the team played.
“We did some different things to get them a little out of their comfort zone in hopes of preparing them for post season play,” she said.
Wellington went 4-1, with convincing wins in the matches it won.
The Lady Crusaders are now 14-12 and were to have hosted Collegiate and Rose Hill on Tuesday.
The storms Friday kept everyone up late. Wellington coach Cherity Elder said that was a concern going into the tournament, but “they proved to be ready to go.  They played some great volleyball and really dominated some teams.”
The things she looks for were there.
“The chemistry was there, the passing was there, and we had an assortment of girls racking up the kills.  It was nice to really play well the entire day,” she said.
Micah Rogers led the team with 29 kills followed by Siarah walker at 25.  Abby Goodrum walked away with 16 and Mariah Moore with 15.
McKenna Oathout did an exceptional job setting and left the tournament day with 47 assists.
