Wellington will host the girls regional tennis tournament Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11-12, at the courts near the old junior high school. Other courts may also be used.
Teams competing include: Andover Central, Buhler, Larned, Nickerson, Pratt, Towanda—Circle, Ulysses, Wellington, Wichita—Trinity Academy, and Winfield. The top six in each event will move on to the state tournament.
At the AVCTL tournament on Monday of this week, Wellington finished fifth out of eight teams, and will face some of the same teams at the regional.
At No. 1 doubles, Wellington's Kelsey Whaley and Peyton Adams finished fourth, losing 6-1 6-1 in the third place match. They won their first match, beating the Winfield tam of Jenna Groene and Victoria Eskridge-Lybarger, but then fell out of the winner's bracket losing to the team from Wichita Collegiate, that sent them to the third place game.
At No. 2 doubles, Wellington Madison Adams and Maggie Fink finished fourth. The beat a team from Buhler and lost to Collegiate. They then lost to a team from McPherson in the third place match.
At No. 1 singles, Wellington's Dietra Sober won one match and lost two and finished sixth.
At No. 2 singles Wellington's Auni Williams also won one and lost two and finished sixth.
