  • For those folks attending ball games, homecoming events or community festivals this weekend, the latest version of our forecast has some good news for you!  Local meteorologists have removed most of the precipitation chances for the weekend, pushing the bulk of the wet stuff off until late Sunday into Monday. A few showers and thunderstorms could pop up later today/tonight, but those predictions are directed primarily at the southeastern portions of the state.
If things keep tracking the way they now expect, south central Kansas should have mostly sunny skies and seasonal temps through much of the weekend. A slight chance for rain will enter the picture after lunch on Sunday, with chances increasing significantly by Sunday evening. We can also expect conditions to be a little breezy throughout the weekend. Today, south winds could produce gusts up to 30 mph. Tomorrow, after a wind shift, sustained north-northeast winds of around 14 mph could be accompanied by occasional 20 mph gusts. Sunday’s more easterly winds will stay in about the same range, possibly gusting as high as 24 mph.
After forecasting such a pleasant autumn weekend, meteorologists predict that it will be followed up by thunderstorms, primarily on Monday and Monday evening. Widespread severe weather is not expected with this system; however, storms could become strong to marginally severe as they track across us toward southeast Kansas.
