Sometimes it’s simply not possible to say thank you enough, particularly when you don’t know who it is that needs to be thanked.

Kathie and I held a memorial service this past weekend for our daughter, Stephanie, who died in September. From out of nowhere, people brought food to supplement what Kathie had prepared.

Additionally, perhaps a hundred persons showed up to remember and honor their relationship with Stephanie, as well as Ashley, her sister, Kathie, and I. It was really quite overwhelming—the love that our family felt via the concern and presence of others at the memorial service.

We were touched by those who traveled some distance—like Stephanie’s two friends from middle school in Hays; like Kathie’s former co-worker at PRMC, who now lives in Kinsley—not to mention family traveling from Oregon, South Carolina, and Oklahoma.

The cards, sent by so many, as well the flowers, touched our hearts. The kind words and memories of Stephanie, which several shared, will be treasured for years to come. The memorial donations to the Eastern Washington University Health, Wellness, and Prevention services will hopefully help a college student to realize that there is always another path to choose than the one that ultimately leads to sadness and despair.

To everyone who may not receive a thank you card from us, Kathie and I want to say a simple, “Thanks.” We can’t really ever say thanks enough for what each of you did to help us make it through.
