Being a horror fan, American Horror Story should be just what the doctor ordered.  Well, the first season had a lot of highs, but more than enough lows, and the ending just left me a little underwhelmed.

So it was only with half hopes that Season Two would amount to anything more.  Thankfully, I was wrong.  Yes it is stilled riddled with cliches but it uses them to its advantage.

This season brings an entirely different story line but a lot of the same actors.  Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, and Zachary Quinto are all back and are joined by newcomers Sarah Paulson and James Cromwell, among others.

This time the setting takes us to Briarcliff Home for the Criminally Insane, or the titular Asylum and all matter of craziness ensues.

In the interest of spoilers and keeping things short I won't reveal any of the details suffice it to say, it's full of great scares and further showcases the excellent talents of its cast.  Asylum is in every way better than the preceding season (and Coven, season 3, is looking to be even better than this one).

The blu-ray set collects all 13 episodes from the 17-time Emmy nominated second season and some great behind the scenes features.

Wonderfully creepy, brilliantly acted, and deliciously scary, American Horror Story: Asylum is the perfect way to spend some cold fall nights.    Ryan Murphy has really created a great show here and he is giving his cast such great material here.   Jessica Lange is a show stealer in every season and she is in rare form here.

Horror fans should eat this show right up and don't worry if you haven't seen the first season.  They're all independent of each other (at least so far) so you don't need to know what came before to enjoy this season.

American Horror Story: Asylum is available now!

9/10 Nuns!
