Halloween is a week away and people are starting to get ready for trick or treats.
Wellington will again have its Trick or Treat Down the Street on Oct. 31, Halloween night.
Organizer Diana Page said last year there were around 800 children participating, and they hope to get that many this year.
Halloween falls on the same night as a football game this year - is the final regular season game of the year at Winfield.
The trick or treating takes place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.. It starts near City Hall and goes for a few blocks down Washington. Some merchants on side streets will also be participating.
The Wellington Recreation Center will also be offering free booth space for businesses not located in the downtown area, at Memorial Auditorium.
Parents may have to make a choice, or cut the trick or treating short in order to get to the game.
Wellington Chamber Executive Director Shelley Hansel-Williams said it would be too hard to try to change the date in order to not conflict with the football game.
The event was started about 10 years go by Page and some other people as a way to make traditional trick or treating safer, and to bring kids and their parents to the downtown area.
For those who want to get started on Halloween events earlier, the Wellington Recreation Center is offering some activities.
On Thursday the rec center will have a Halloween Fun Fest, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., for children between the age of three and fourth grade.
The Fun Fest includes contests, games, snacks, treat bags and costume contest. The cost is $7 per person and there will be an additional fee of $5 on the day of event.
The Rec Center will also host the Monster Mash Halloween on Saturday, Oct. 26th from 8:00-10:00 pm for middle schoolers. Buy Back Door Passes at school during the lunch hour on Thursday, Oct. 24th and the WRC on Friday, Oct. 25th.
