  • Inconsistency marked the Wellington volleyball's season, and it made the difference in their substate game Saturday, as they lost to Mulvane 2-1.
Wellington lost a close first game 25-22. The Lady Crusaders then dominated the second game, winning 25-15 going away.
Mulvane grabbed a big lead in the final game and Wellington could not catch up, losing 25-14.
Wellington coach Cherity Elder said inconsistency plagued the team all year.
"We will play really well, and then just start passing bad," she said.
She said if the team can get past that, it will be a very good team.
The loss marked the end of the season, but most of the team will return next year, and she believes they will be even better.
She said Mariah Moore had a good game, and "had her head in the right place today." She also commended the play of Micah Rogers at the net.
She felt the team made a lot of progress late in the year. They were losing, but they were losing close games to good teams.
The difference in the match Saturday was Wellington could not keep a stream of points going once it got a lead.
"We didn't finish, we didn't put things away when we could have," Elder said.
