A 20-year old Wellington man was killed early Sunday when he was struck by a vehicle in Fort Smith, Ark.
Nathanael James DeJarnet, died about 1 a.m. Sunday when he was struck by a car as he crossed the street, according to the Fort Smith Times Democrat newspaper.
The report said the driver of the vehicle was turning left when the vehicle struck DeJarnett in the center left turn lane of the roadway.
According to Fort Smith Police records, the driver, Vicki Fielding, 51, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and refusal to take a breath test. She posted bond and was released.
The Arkansas State Police crash report said DeJarnet was hit as the driver was making a left turn.
Fort Smith police report the investigation is ongoing and the files will be turned over to the Sebastian County Prosecutor's Office to determine if any additional charges will be filed.
Fielding is scheduled to appear at the Sebastian County Courthouse on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 9 a.m., according to the detention center.
DeJarnet grew up in Wellington and attended Wellington schools. In 2011 he moved to Grove, Okla., with his parents and graduated high school there.
He is the son of George Jr., and Desilu (Burks) DeJarnett.
Memorial services are planned for 11 a.m., Saturday at the First Freewill Baptist Church of Wellington. A private intermet will be held at a later time.
