Not this one.

Your read earlier about the rampant speculation that tends to take the place of a targeted public relations campaign when Bruce Springsteen prepares to release new material — and with the recent rollout of “Dream Baby Dream” and “High Hopes,” speculation has turned to the idea of a Bruce Springsteen covers album.

Whether this is a good idea or not is a subject for debate: Personally, after hearing “High Hopes” (posted earlier today to MOG before being summarily withdrawn, no doubt after the firing of an unfortunate intern), I’m warming to it. After all, the current incarnation of the E Street Band has shown it can inject new life into pretty much anything on the concert stage, and “High Hopes” suggests they could do it just as well in the studio. If a new original album isn’t in the cards at the moment, a covers disc would be a fine souvenir of the band’s latest lineup.

But what songs to include? There’s the rub. Our poll below lists 21 songs Springsteen has fooled around with in concert to great effect, and you can choose up to three you’d like to see get the studio treatment. And if your favorite is missing, or you have a dream song you’d love to hear by the ESB, add those in the “Other” field at the end. Results later this week!
