  • Here are early results from the state Class 4A wrestling match in Salina. Two Wellington wrestlers have advanced to the semifinals of the winners bracket and will medal. The other three lost first round matches but are still in contention for a medal as of friday afternoon.
In the 285 pound class, Tyson Hodson lost his first round match by fall.

In the 220 pound class, Dalton Holt lost his first round match by fall.

In the 195 pound class, Taylon Lamkin won his first round match by decision. He also won his second round match by decision and is in the semifinals of the winners bracket. He will medal and can do no worse than sixth.

In the 170 pound class, Chance Hain lost his first round match by technical fall.

In the 145-pound class, Andrew Pelkey has assured himself of at least a sixth place finish and a medal. He won his first two matches, both by decision, and is in the semifinals of the winners bracket.

All of them are still in contention for a top-six finish and a medal.

Wellington is currently tied for 26th as a team, with nine points, but there is a lot of wrestling left, so that does not mean much at this point. The team could finish much higher.
