  • Max Bernard Crittenden, age 84, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 4, 2014 at Sumner Regional Medical Center, in Wellington. Max was a long time Wellington resident and a retired Meat Inspector for the United States Department of Agriculture.

    Max Bernard Crittenden, age 84, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 4, 2014 at Sumner Regional Medical Center, in Wellington.  Max was a long time Wellington resident and a retired Meat Inspector for the United States Department of Agriculture.
     
    Max was born on November 19, 1929 in rural Wellington, KS to Don Palma Crittenden and Maude Elvira (Hutchison) Crittenden.  He served in the United States Navy from July 9, 1948 to April 9, 1952.
     
    Max married Bernadine McKiernan on July 22, 1955 at the First Baptist Church in Wellington, KS.
     
    He loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed attending and supporting his children and grandchildren’s activities.  He was well known for repairing and restoring bicycles, raising and training Tennessee Brindle Coon Dogs, and was an active member of the T.T.B.B.A.  Max supported nature and was an avid outdoorsman.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the American Legion.
     
    He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Veryl and Raymond Crittenden; two sisters, Velma Countryman and Dorothy Glick; and one granddaughter, Alexis Crittenden.
     
    Survivors include his loving wife, Bernie Crittenden of Wellington; children, Luke Crittenden of Wellington, Kurk Crittenden and his wife Diane of Wellington, Shawn Crittenden of Wichita, Carmen Hull of Wichita, Eric Struble of Bradenton, FL, and Cindy Pentoney of Berkeley Springs, WV; sisters, Ida Bonita Mahannah of Denton, TX, Donna Browning of Arlington, TX, and Marlene Parret of Clearwater, KS; grandchildren, Danny Crittenden and his wife Michelle, Libby Fisch and her husband Michael, Kristin Branam and her husband Roy, Amber Beck and her husband Harry, Allyson Smith and her husband Justin, Ashley Crittenden, Alex Hull, Riley Hull, Jamie Pentoney, and Brian Struble; great grandchildren, Aaralyn, Arianna, Gavin, Jaden, Emory, Ellen, Adelynn, Skyler, and Kylee.
     
    Funeral Services will be held at the First Baptist Church on Saturday morning, March 8, 2014 at 10:30 A.M.  Pastor John Bliss will officiate.  Interment will follow the service at Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
     
    Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M.  The family will be present to greet friends from 7:00 – 8:00 P.M.
     
    Memorials have been established with the First Baptist Church Building Fund and Relay for Life in lieu of flowers.  Contributions can be left at the funeral home.
     
    Frank Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
