Wellington 8, Buhler 0

Clearwater 8, Wellington 2

The Wellington softball team got off to a good start Thursday, winning their opener 8-0 over Buhler. The Lady Crusaders lost to Clearwater 8-2 in their secone game.

Jade Dry had a good game in her pitching debut at the varsity level. She registered just two strikeouts, but allowed only one hit, and kept the game under control.

Coach T.D. Buck was happy with the opener, and with the pitcher’s performance.

“Going into the season you never know what to expect. She did a good job throwing strikes. We hit the ball well at times but we left some on base. Pleased with a win,” he said.

There were times the Crusaders got timely hits but other times they did not. They stole some bases and made some opportunities.

Wellington got two in the first, two in the third and four in the fifth. The four runs in the fifth inning came on one hit, a walk and three errors from Buhler.

Peyton Adams had two hits, with a double and an rbi. Ryleigh Buck  Shelby Hamel and Dry each had doubles. Erin Goodrum was credited with two rbi and a run scored without getting a hit, thanks to some errors by Buhler.

Ryleigh Buck and  McKenna Oathout each scored twice.

In the second game, Wellington managed seven hits, but were not able to get many runs across the plate. Clearwater scored four in the third and four more in the fourth. Wellington got two in the fifth to make the final 8-2.

Ryleigh Buck was 3-for-four with one rbi and a double. McComb had two hits. Dry added a hit and drove in Wellington’s other run.

Dry and Peyton Adams piched and gave up 11 hits between them.

Bryana Vogel had a home run and three rbi for Clearwater.
