  • Crusader baseball wins two; softball team swept

  • Wellington's baseball team won two games, and the softball team lost two, Monday in High School sports action in Wellington.

  • Wellington held on in two games to sweep Rose Hill Monday night in Wellington.
    Wellington won the first game 5-3 and the secone one 6-3.
    In the first game the Crusaders managed just five hits, but made good use of them.  Parker Daugherty and Trevor Nance each had doubles. Adam Condit, Payton Baker both had rbi singles, and Jalen Macais had a single.
    Trevor Nance got the win, going six innings on the mound. He spread out three hits and struck out seven. Adam Condit got the save, pitching one inning.
    Two Rose Hill pitchers, Griffin McBride and Nate Scantlin combined for 10 strikeouts. Scantlin took the loss.
    In the second game, Wellington got two runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away for the 6-3 win.
    Ben DeJarnett had two hits and had two rbi. Trevor Nance had a double and an rbi.  Houston Sober had an rbi single. Others getting hits were Andrew Horn, Austin Dunn and Parker Daugherty.
    Wesley Gilmore pitched five strong innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two and walking three. Jalen Macias went two innings to get the save, spreading out two hits and struck out one.
    With the two wins, Wellington moves to 3-1 for the season.
     
     SOFTBALL
    The Wellington softball team had some hits but didn’t get them at the right time , and were swept by Rose Hill Monday in Wellington by scores of 7-4 amd 9-3.
    In the first game Wellington had 12 hits, to nine for Rose Hill, but the team could not hold on for the win. Rose Hill scored three in the first and Wellington answered with three in the fourth to tie the game.  Wellington got another run in the sixth, but Rose hill had two fifth and two more in the seventh.
    For Wellington, Erin Goodrum had a double and a single. Shelby Hammel, Madi Adams and Carlie McComb each had two hits. McKenna Oathout, Ryleigh Buck, Jade Dry and Brianna Mullen each had a hit.
    Jade Dry pitched a complete game for Wellington.
    Shelby Simmons was 3-for-four for Rose Hill with four rbi.
    In the second game Wellington had nine hits, but had trouble scoring in a 9-3 loss.
    For Wellington Ryleigh Buck  was 2-4 had a triple and two rbi and Madi Adams was 2-4 with a double. 
    Carlie McComb had two singles for Wellington.
    Rose Hill had three home runs from three different players, as well as a triple and a double.
