  • Anna Marie Slack, of Wellington, Kansas, died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the William Newton Hospital in Winfield, Kansas at the age of 81.
    Anna Marie was born the daughter of Clifford and Ruby (Woods) Metz on Wednesday, July 13, 1932 in Wellington, Kansas.
    On October 14, 1951, Anna Marie and Harold L. Slack were united in marriage at the Oxford Baptist Church in Oxford, Kansas. Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage before his death in March of 2009. To this union were born two children: Cynthia and Doyle.  
    Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Vernon LeRoy Metz.
    Anna Marie was a materials manager for St. Luke's Hospital in Wellington, Kansas and retired after 26 years of service. In her free time, she was an avid quilter that loved giving to others. Anna Marie was dedicated to her faith and was very involved with her church. Above all, she loved her family and made sure they knew their importance to her whether they were young or old, near or far.
    Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Walker and her husband O.B. of Wellington, Kansas, son, Doyle Slack and his wife Kris of San Francisco, California, grandchildren: Michelle Ward of Anchorage, Alaska and Jason Walker of Arkansas City, Kansas, two great-grandchildren: Bryana Ward of Anchorage, Alaska and Estabon Walker-Avendano of Arkansas City, Kansas and a sister, Mary Margaret Beatty and her husband Jack of Athens, Georgia.
    Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2014 with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
    Funeral services for Anna Marie will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in the First United Methodist Church, Wellington, Kansas.
    Interment will follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens, Wellington, Kansas.
    A memorial has been established in her loving memory to the First United Methodist Church, 202 West Harvey, Wellington, Kansas 67152. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
