  • Two Oklahoma women were killed in a traffic accident Tuesday night on the Kansas Turnpike near mile marker 41.
Preliminary reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol show a Ford F150 entered the Turnpike at the South Wichita toll plaza on the correct ramp to go northbound. While on the ramp the driver drove off the roadway striking a sign, crossing the grassy gore. The pickup truck re-entered the roadway traveling southbound in the northbound lane and striking a Pontiac G6 on the 55th Street Bridge.
Lori Uchiyama, 38, of Blackwell and her passenger, 33-year-old Elizabeth Goodno of Ponca City, were driving north on the turnpike at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday when their Pontiac G-6 was hit by a Ford F-150 south of the exit for 47th Street South. Uchiyama and Goodno died at the scene.  Fifer was transported to a hospital for treatment.
The investigation continues into the possibility of a medical condition contributing to the accident. A final report will be available with the Kansas Highway Patrol once the investigation is complete.
Northbound lanes of the turnpike were closed for several hours after the accident.
